Our Wonderful Performing Horses
Meet the performing horses of The cavalry of heroes – The Real Stars of The Show!
Our beautiful performing horses are a mixture of breeds but all have one thing in common, they are the bravest, sweetest, most loyal horses we’ve ever met and are our family. Trained by Marc Lovatt with thoughtfulness and compassion our multi-talented horses are very much loved by us and all who meet them and enjoy every minute of show life.
Each of the horses we are luckily enough to have as part of our family have their own unique character and each is ready to accompany our heroes on their next adventure. Below you will find some details about each of them and you can find more pictures and videos of your favourites over on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
“Our lifelong mission is to improve the working lives of performing horses in the UK. Leading by example we provide exciting family entertainment and education at events across the UK while ensuring that our horses are treated like heroes: training and supporting them with the upmost kindness and understanding as our most majestic partner on all of our adventures.”

16.1hh | Black | Friesian | Stallion
The stunningly beautiful Asgard! Named after the greatest of places in norse mythology, Asgard stole our hearts the moment we met him. With his long flowing mane he loves being in front of camera and an audience, performing at shows like a pro and showing off his mane by flicking it whenever there is a camera around. He’s been on film sets with us, and is a excellent jousting horse. He also pulls a single carriage by himself and floats along effortlessly when he’s teamed up with his best friend Zorro in the carriage. A beautiful boy who loves performing and loves carrots!
15.2hh | Black | Super Cob | Gelding
The incredible Guinness; the horse that started it all! He was a best friend of Catherine’s before The Cavalry of Heroes even started, helping her through a difficult time in her life before she had even met Marc. Guinness is actually the reason Catherine and Marc met! He is the sweetest, friendliest and most talented cob; he can joust, trick ride, perform tricks at liberty and pull a carriage and you will see him at any show where Catherine is. The only thing he doesn’t do is jump as he learnt early on that if he kicks the jump it just falls over! A very clever horse and deservedly head of our whole herd 🙂
15.3hh | Grey | Andalusian | Stallion
Our fairytale, almost pure white, Andalusian Stallion who we think is secretly a unicorn! With his long flowing mane and tail you will often see him as Lady Lancelot’s horse, carrying himself and his rider with confidence and bravery. He loves the shows and performing in front of a crowd and showing off his piaffe and Spanish Walk. We rescued Curioso from Spain where he was in a concrete stable to help keep him pure white but we don’t mind cleaning off mud so with us here in Wales he has great fun galloping around outdoors his field of green grass!
Harry & Apollo
15.2hh | Appaloosa | Geldings | Brothers
Our gangster pair of brothers! Always together and creating mischief these two have never been separated. They dote on each other and absolutely love performing. They drive a carriage together as a pair and joust in many of our shows. Apollo is slightly younger one and he has the white nose while Harry (fully name Harry Potter!) has the black nose with the black Poirot style moustache. You may recognise them as the horses in the Mumford and Sons Beloved music video among their many appearances on screen.
15.3hh | White | Andalusian | Gelding
The loveable Pegasus who flies through the air and loves performing tricks, from bowing and rearing to lying down and Spanish Walk, he is a super quick learner and loves company. His favourite trick is to stick out his tongue at you when you aren’t paying him enough attention! He drives a carriage as a single or in a pair with Curioso or Zorro. He isn’t that keen on jousting so you won’t see him at many of our jousting shows but he loves performing and dressing up for our other trick riding shows.
16.1hh | Black | Friesian| Gelding
Zorro, like his friend Azgard, is a gentle soul and has lots and lots of presence. He looks to his human friends for playtime and trusts Marc so much that he is really brave in new situations. From being on film sets and driving carriages through London to jousting as the Dark Knight’s horse. He makes friends with every horse in the herd and every cat, chicken and human on the yard! Since we first got him he has put on lots of muscle and is super strong, especially pulling carriages by himself of with his friends in pairs and teams.
16.1hh | Black | Friesian | Stallion
Always curious and showing off, D’artagnon loves to impress! With his gorgeous long black curly mane and tail, jet black coat and elegant movements he glides across show arenas and pulls carriages with ease. His favourite pastime is playing in water, whether it is rolling in puddles or swimming in the river, if there is water nearby he just loves to jump in and play! Suprising as a stallion he still makes friends easily and goes out in the field with his friends Zorro and Pegasus. He enjoys showing off and can rear, bow, lie down and perform Spanish walk as well as pull a carriage, just don’t stand too close as he will try and unzip your coat!
15.1hh | Black | Irish Cob| Gelding
NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA BATMAN!!! Sorry, just couldn’t resist! With his super big bat like ears and his ability to run headlong into any situation all he needs now is a cape. Batman is the baby of our group at just 5 years old he is still learning all the ropes but he’s already starred in a few commercials and has been the centre of attention at some of our recent shows. Looking so much like Guinness, they make an excellent driving pair with Guinness as the Dad teaching him lots of lessons. As a youngster Batman still has his baby moustache which is is more than happy to wiggle for you if you ask nicely!
15.2hh | Bay | Andalusian | Stallion
An ex-military and bull-fighting horse, with incredibly good PRE bloodlines, Marc rescued Gladiator from Spain when Gladiator was 20 years old but like with so many Andalusians he is still going strong. Gladiator is a school-master and enjoyed teaching many of our riding school clients and actors how to ride. His super level canter made him an excellent jousting horse, but as a stallion unfortunately he doesn’t play well in company, so we made the decision to retire him and he is now sponsored by a lovely young girl on the south coast and is happy running in a field of mares becoming a Dad many times over, having already sired over 80 foals in Spain!
16.2hh | Grey | ISH x Holsteiner | Gelding
Boy can Buckbeak fly! As one of Marc’s personal jumping horses Buckbeak would travel round the show arenas in Herefordshire and Glouscesterhire bring home lots of jumping rosettes and you will remember him being the imfamous Highwayman Hine’s horse for the BBC Highwayman documentary. He was with us at the start of The Cavalry of Heroes but has since moved on to a show jumping yard in East Anglia where he is continuing his show jumping career. It was a tough decision for us to make but he really didn’t like jousting and he deserved to have fun doing what he loved; jumping and flying!
