“A Magical Blend of Horsemanship and Theatre”
Our story is one of romance and epic adventure, inspired by all those stories of heroes and chivalry, we delight in bringing a bit of magic, hope and fun back into the world.
“Our lifelong mission is to improve the working lives of performing horses in the UK. Leading by example, we provide exciting family entertainment and education at events across the UK while ensuring that our horses are treated like heroes: training and supporting them with the upmost kindness and understanding as our most majestic partner in all of our adventures.”
About Our Horse Trainer & Horsemaster
With a background working with horses, Marc has years of experience training horses from Showjumping in Burma to driving carriages at The Royal Mews, Buckingham Palace and has ridden on film sets across Europe for some fo the biggest productions.
Above all he places the importance of making sure that his horses are happy and healthy and trust in him. As by gaining and respecting this trust his beautiful horses always give their very best performance, willingly and without hesitation, through mutual respect and admiration. You can see more of him training our horses here at Marc Lovatt Horsemanship.
Catherine works alongside Marc as a consultant organising everything on and off set and designing the look and feel of the performances by drawing on her fantastical imagination and creative background. She started Historical Horses as a base for writers, producers and researchers to find out information about working with horses on set but also about the historical significance of horses and travel throughout history.
Historical Horses is also where you can see our costume making in action, with downloads, pattern pieces and items to purchase or hire. Catherine also performs as a rider and performer in the live shows and enjoys helping train the horses.
Together they were voted Herefordshire’s most romantic couple and continue to enjoy training the Cavalry of Heroes horses in the beautiful scenery of the Wye Valley on the border of England and Wales – a place so entrenched with history, castles and stories of heroism that it richly feeds the imagination.
“Marc and Catherine are amazing. They are very patient, kind, calm and expert in what they are doing. The stunning horses they provided were perfectly behaved.” Viv Portman

Introducing The Cavalry Crew; talented horse riders and grooms who are an integral part of the shows!
Our team is made up of experienced riders who are working in the filming industry and are regularly performing in live shows across the country. All our shows are performed by our team of professional stunt and trick riders who have worked on film sets across Europe including Game of Thrones, Britannia, Merlin and King Arthur to name but a few, and our semi-choreographed jousting performances ensure that no two shows are the same, with the Knights genuinely trying to score points at every turn.
Our team also work as background riders, riding doubles for actors and professional stunt and trick performers trained in trick riding, horse falls, roman riding, charges, falling and weaponry. Supported by an efficient ground crew including horsemasters, grooms and horse handlers. Our Wonderful Horses
We decided very early on that they wouldn’t just showcase one particular breed of horse but instead focus on the goodness and temperament of the horses that we invite to join our family. This way the horses become the real stars of the shows and their trust in us and the team can be seen in every performance.
The horses include majestic jet black Friesian Stallion Asgard and his best friends Zorro and D’artagnon. Also, a pure white Andalusian Stallion Curioso Maximus and his friends Pegasus and Guinness. And not to be left out the gorgeous spotty Appaloosa brothers Harry Potter and Apollo. You can see more of the horses and find out about them here and follow their stories on their Instagram and Facebook pages.
