St George rode his wonderful horse Guinness in the first performance with his Knights riding Apollo, Harry, Guinness and Curioso as their noble steeds, who we all such good boys.  Harry and Apollo are our Appaloosa brothers, while Guinness is an Irish Cob X and Curioso Maximus De Cartujano is our sweetest Andalusian Stallion.

A special thanks goes to the Lady Elizabeth from Past Times Living History who kept the long line waiting to meet the Knights after the performance entertained.  We had so many lovely comments about how informative and entertaining Lady Elizabeth was that you can be sure she will be back!

Our Knight’s 2018 Final (and most epic!) Joust at Usk Show

A Medieval battle ensued at Usk Show this year as the Knights of The Cavalry of Heroes did battle to defeat the evilest of evil Queens who teamed up with the Dark Knight to try and defeat our Good King Arthur once and for all!

I’m pleased to say that in the end, after a nail-biting joust and an awesome sword fight that our Good King triumphed with the help of his most trusted Knights on Horseback including the Golden Knight and Sir Lancelot.  The Dark Knight and his Queen were defeated never to return again in 2018 (as this was our last Medieval Jousting Display of the season!).

What a wonderful show to be a part of for our last joust of 2018.  The large Usk showground hosted a wonderful array of country pursuits, vintage tractors, woodcraft, horses and livestock and the organisation by the team was impeccable (thank you Nia!).  Our set up area was huge and the horses loved all the space and their new friends who came to visit them along the track to the horse arenas.

Despite a handful of rain showers a wonderful crowd stayed through to our last show and really got behind our Good King Arthur and his Knights in his quest to defeat the evil Queen.  We could hear your cheers and our Knights thank you for your incredible support in their mightiest of quests!

It was a pleasure to perform at such a local show as we saw lots of familiar faces and lots of the talented horse riders from the area who had their dressage tests right next to our set up area.  Zorro loved all the attention from the ladies and showed off splendidly 🙂 while Harry and Apollo were really taken by the little ponies who they fell in love with!

The horses we had with us were our beautiful Friesians D’artagnon and Zorro, as well as Guinness, our Irish Cob, Curioso Maximus, our Andalusian Stallion and our Appaloosa brothers Harry and Apollo.  Each one happy to be performing in front of such a lovely crowd.

One of the highlights for us was our escorted parade to the main arena as we went down the shoot to the cheers of well-wishers who came to see the colourful array of Knights (it reminded us of that scene in A Knights Tale where the crowds line the streets to see the jousting tournament so a big thank you to everyone who came to see us!).

And a big thank-you to everyone who was a part of the day including the excellent team at Usk Show and the volunteers who made the day such a success and so atmospheric. We couldn’t have wish for a better end to the jousting season.

Jousting at the Game of Thrones Festival in Kent

What a fantastic time had by The Cavalry of Heroes team at Thronefest!  Game of Thrones fans put together an excellent event to celebrate all things related to the George R Martin books and to the film series.  Filled with actors from the TV series as well as appearances from the animal stars; the wolves and the ravens.

The Cavalry of Heroes Thronefest Game of Thrones Medieval Jousting Lannister vs Stark

We were asked to attend to put on a Game of Thrones inspired Jousting Tournament, with our Knights on horseback and what fun we had!  As some of our riders have been fortunate enough to ride as part of the TV series under The Devils Horsemen, we made the most of who they looked like, so let me introduce to you: King of the North (after coming back from holiday in Barbados), Marjory Tyrell, Big Finger and the Golden Lannister! The Cavalry of Heroes Thronefest Game of Thrones Medieval Jousting Jon Snow

On the first show of the day we had an audience that was 6 people deep around the arena with those at the front having to sit down to allow for those at the back to see. Most of the lovely crowd were cheering for the King of the North, representing house Stark (“what are we doing here… we should all be riding north…. We need to head north to fight the white walkers” – in your best Yorkshire accent!).  The atmosphere was buzzing, and the riders and horses loved it!

Not only were we jousting we were asked to provide some terrifying White Walkers on horses, including the Night King himself. Special mention has to go to our two White Walker riders who did an absolutely superb job terrifying the visitors as they came through the gates.  You might recognise the two horses as Asgard and Zorro, our beautiful black Friesians.

Our other horses at the show included our beautiful Andalusian Stallion Curioso Maximus, our Irish Cob X Guinness and our appaloosa brothers Harry and Apollo.

For its first year, this celebration of all things Game of Thrones, was brilliant and can only get better in the future.  Well done to the event organisers and volunteers who you could tell just loved being able to be a part of such a great day.  A special thank you to the mother and daughter team who were looking after our horse area and escorting us to and from the arena – thank you.

With a long drive back home ahead of us from Kent, The Cavalry of Heroes team set off back home to the Welsh Border, with only a little regret that it hadn’t been a two day festival as being near the seaside in Kent was rather lovely.

Breaking visitor and temperature records at Berkeley Castle May Jousting Show

What a weekend! Amazing crowds and the most beautiful weather at Berkeley Castle. We were joined by Past Times Living History Group to put on a medieval extravaganza fun day for the whole family.

Not only did we have four Knights fighting it out to be crowned tournament champion, Henry VIII and all his six wives were also in attendance. To quote one particularly enthralled visitor “I’ve learnt more about Henry VIII and his wives in 30 minutes than I did when I was at school, just brilliant”

Overall all I’m pleased to say that we broke yet another venue’s all time visitor record, with record numbers of people through the doors to Berkeley Castle. Thank you everyone for coming to support our show and the Castle with the superb work they are doing to keep it looking stunning and creating a wonderful venue for a fun family day out.

Marc and I were also joined by our newest team member Francesca Kay, who became our commentating Queen for the Bank Holiday Monday. Lady Francesca excelled at creating a fun family atmosphere for all visitors and is a very talented wordsmith and performer and we’re very pleased to have her as part of the team.

Our beautiful horses with us were Guinness and Curioso Maximus. We made the decision to keep them out of their bigger costumes for some of the shows as it was really too hot to ask them to run around in the equivalent of a winter coat, but, I hope you agree that they still looked beautiful with their shiny coats and natural good looks. They were pampered all weekend with cold showers and lots of care and attention from our lovely grooms and squires Judy and Charlie.

No such respite for the Knights though in their chainmail and armour, but I’m please to say that the ice cream from The Yurt Cafe went down a treat.

On to our next show at this coming weekend at the South Suffolk Show with a change of scene and our first performance this year of our World War One Signature show. Remember that you can only see this show this year as it is the centenary year of the end of The Great War, so check out our show dates to find our performance closest to you!

For some more behind the scenes footage check out our Instagram and Facebook pages and for more videos take a look at our new You Tube Channel.

For Event Organisers: be the first to hear about our new main arena shows, acts and booking opportunities, as well as receive helpful insights about having performing horses at events by signing up to our Event Organisers Email Group.  Find out more here and if you would like to book The Cavalry of Heroes or find out more about what we do please contact us via our website enquiry form, email or phone.
