Medieval Knights and WW1 Soldiers together in spells of sunshine at Shrewsbury Show 2018

by | Aug 29, 2018 | Equestrian Displays, Knights on Horseback, Medieval, Medieval Jousting Displays, World War One: Horses and Heroes Display

Another brilliant year for the Shrewsbury Flower Show 2018 despite the torrential downpours courtesy of the quirky British weather!  The storms sent many visitors scampering for cover into the marquees but being the true professionals they are, Shrewsbury Flower Show organisers had thought of everything and the marquees were filled with many fantastic stall, traders and beautiful flower displays.

We were honoured to perform in the main ring this year not only with our Limited Edition WW1: Horses and Heroes display, as a tribute to the horses and solders of World War One, but with spectacular Medieval Jousting as well which saw all eight of our beautiful horses make an appearance and a debut for our Evil Queen and her horse Louis (as Asgard was feeling a bit under the weather, so we left him at home with a couple of his friends to get better).

It was fate that for each of our main ring shows we managed to avoid the rain and for each show we had beautiful sunshine which meant lots of lovely visitors coming to watch our performances.

Some of these visitors were kind enough to send us some lovely reviews after watching our shows.  We are very humbled to receive such lovely feedback and so glad that we are in this fortunate position to be able to entertain visitors and raise awareness of the roles of horses in history.

Staying on site overnight with the horses meant that we were lucky enough to be able to watch the firework displays which were sensational and fully in time to some great music.  We watched from the paddocks with the horses, who, after a little hesitation, settled down to enjoy the magic and ate lots of lovely hay (and apples!).  We would recommend anyone coming to Shrewsbury Show to stick around for the fireworks in the evening.

Some of you will know that it was also our horse trainer and founder’s birthday this weekend and it was great to be able to celebrate it doing something Marc loves, performing with horses, and by eating lots of delicious cake from Patisserie Valerie!

We’d like to say a special thank you to John and Helen who do such a marvellous job with the show and also to the stewards who escorted us from our set up area to the main ring through the crowds and stalls.  Also, to the lovely Margot at Daubney Agency, for taking the time to come and see us and the Horse Arena Organiser who kindly let us use the collecting ring to get ourselves ready before the start of our show and for being so quick and thorough with the removal of the jumps from the arena with the help of the cadets.  Not to forget the sound guys who made sure that our commentary and music could always be heard.

I saw your display at the Shrewsbury Flower Show on Saturday and just felt the need to say how moving I found the WW1 tribute.  It was so well staged, hitting just the right note. “ Pamela Jacobs, Visitor
