Picturesque Knights on Horseback Jousting at the ancestral home of George Washington!

by | Jun 3, 2018 | Equestrian Displays, Knights on Horseback, Medieval, Medieval Jousting Displays

Sulgrave Manor is a beautiful location for a family day out and secluded enough to be a true hidden and undiscovered gem. We loved being able to perform our Medieval Joust here with our courageous Knights on Horseback as part of Sulgrave Manor’s Tudor Fair for the second year running.

And yet again the sun was shining as we introduced our Lady Lancelot who was fighting it out to become tournament champion against our Golden Knight Sir William.

With space in a pretty field adjoining the house, visitors walked through the courtyard to discover a medieval jousting arena just beyond the garden. In such a lovely setting, magical memories were created by the families who came to watch and cheer on their favourite Knights.

Sulgrave Manor was one of the homes of George Washington which makes it not your average venue! Personally, I loved the American herb and vegetable gardens which showed off the typical foods of those who live in America when it was newly discovered.

Our Dark Knight also made an appearance when he heard that he would be jousting against Sir William, his arch rival! With the help of our lovely audience he was quickly defeated but that didn’t stop a lot of his fans coming to meet him afterwards for a photograph.

Our Knight’s horses were Curioso Maximus and Guinness, who were the true stars of the day, with lots of admirers and lovely comments, not only about how pretty they are but also how well they behaved. Our boys really are a credit to their lovely natures and to the wonderful training they receive from our horse trainer and Golden Knight, Marc Lovatt.

It was great to meet some of the other performers as well on the day including some beautiful birds of prey (and the biggest owl I’ve ever seen!) and have a go archery where we challenged the two experts to find out which one of them was the best shot (with two bulls eyes out of three arrows there was a clear winner!).

Overall this was a beautiful and intimate show which brings everyone up close to the Knights, horses and action, and is just perfect for its setting. Thank you to the organisers for having us back for a second year and we hope to be back soon!
